Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Calls Goalkeeper Booers 'Not True Genuine Fans'
Fulham Begin Powerfully to Beat Tottenham and Raise Tension on the Manager
Tottenham Hotspur fans who jeered keeper Vicario were told afterwards "they can't be real Spurs supporters" by manager Thomas Frank.
Tottenham let in two scores in the opening initial moments to fall 2-1 to their opponents, registering their tenth top-flight home loss of the year.
However the primary talking point was the visitors' next score when the keeper lost the ball well beyond his box.
The goalkeeper came out to deal with a high pass and carried the ball towards the touchline.
However, instead of kicking it into touch, the Italy international turned and attempted to clear, but slipped as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.
The forward laid the ball off to Welsh midfield player Harry Wilson, who bent a shot into the net from the touchline recorded at thirty-six point six yards.
Moments later when the ball went to Vicario again, some Spurs fans booed him.
The team were booed off at half-time, with the club 2-0 down, and once more at full-time.
A particular of those jeering sessions truly irritated Frank.
"It came to my attention some of our fans reportedly booed the incident and jeered after, which, in my view is completely unjustifiable," the Danish manager commented regarding the supporters' response to his goalkeeper.
"Those individuals cannot be true Tottenham fans that act that way. Alright booing after the game, no problem, but when we are in play, we are supporting one another, we are behind one another going forward."
Tete had handed Fulham a early lead before Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Spurs in an better second-half performance.
Former top-flight goalkeeper Joe Hart remarked that the second score was "totally preventable".
"I certainly appreciate the fans' disappointment," the ex-keeper continued. "I am aware the part the keeper is performing. He is a excellent team player, he's a real figure in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your decisions.
"He was heavily implicated in what turned out to be the decisive score."
'It is Part of Football, I Can Handle It'
Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Match
Italian international Vicario is in his third campaign with Spurs.
He said after the match that he had to take the feedback.
"The second goal was a mistake of mine, I take accountability for that," he commented.
"My aim was to clear the ball long and I simply struck the ball in a bad way. That made an even bigger mountain to overcome."
He stated receiving jeers "is part of football".
"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he added. "We can't be affected by the circumstances in the stands. The fans have the entitlement to do as they see fit.
"It is on us to remain increasingly composed, to focus on our own performance. The team is lacking in composure and calmness to overturn results. This match is a poor loss and it's tough to take."
'I Was Surprised Nobody Went Back to the Goal Line'
Despite the keeper's mistake, it was far from an simple goal for Harry Wilson to score.
In fact it was the second longest-range top division goal of the season – following Tyler Adams' forty-three point three metre strike for the Cherries against Sunderland, which incidentally too occurred on the same day.
Wilson stated he was "a little bit surprised" that he still had an open net to target.
Ten seconds passed between the keeper coming out of his area and Wilson shooting – which was five moments following the clearance.
"It seemed to me like the keeper was out of the area for a long time," Wilson said.
"It amazed me not one of the defenders went back to the goal line. When not one of them defended the net, my eyes lit up a bit.
"[Destiny] Udogie fell too, which gave me a bit of additional opportunity. After that it was all about trying to make the right contact and get it towards goal. I had a positive sense, the moment it left my foot, that it was on the right line."
'When You're in a Bad Spell, Everything Seems to Go Against You'
Jeering While We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unjustifiable - Frank
Although Vicario's error dominated headlines, this was an all-round bad performance for Spurs to continue their home ground struggles.
This was their 10th home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a joint team statistic matching 1994 and 2003.
The side still have home fixtures against Frank's former club the Bees and champions the Reds to play before the close of the year.
Just a single of those victories have come after Frank replaced his predecessor in the off-season.
"If you are down 2-0 following the opening, there is a huge challenge to overcome," said Frank.
"When you're in a bad spell, all aspects appears to work against you as well – the opening was a deflected attempt, the next is a error from the keeper.
"This result leaves us in a position where we have suffered another match. Every game has a single narrative, this game we lost in the first six minutes.
"We just need to keep working. The second half was significantly improved and hopefully an aspect we can utilize to develop."
Tottenham have lost 4 straight at home London derbies for the first time in the top division.
And they are averaging 9.5 attempts and three point two efforts on goal per match in the division – their lowest averages on record in a one season (dating back to 2003-04).
Former Cottagers midfielder Murphy stated that Frank has to ride the storm.
"He's got accept the stick," the pundit remarked. "He's taken a high profile job at a huge team with massive anticipation. There is pressure and responsibility that accompanies that.
"The performances at home have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
