Three-time MVP Nikola Jokic sustains a 'gut-wrenching' leg setback.
Triple National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic suffered a "gut-wrenching" knee injury when the Denver Nuggets were defeated 147-123 at the Heat.
The star player injured himself in the latter stages of the opening half in an unintentional collision with fellow Nugget Jones.
The other player landed on the foot of Jokic, and he promptly went down to the court holding his leg.
The veteran player, who leads the NBA season in boards and dimes, had a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the game before suffering the problem.
Jokic will have an MRI scan on the following day to evaluate the seriousness of the issue.
"Right away, he realized something was wrong," said Denver coach David Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Anyone who suffers an injury, that's tough to see, particularly somebody as special as him. We will know more tomorrow."
"We will continue as a team. Obviously, currently, I'm more concerned just about him as a person and the disappointment of going through a situation like that."
