The retailer's Glittering Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Legendaries Giveaway Continues to Encounter Problems

In late September, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company announced a partnered event with the gaming retailer. Until October 15, Glittering editions of the iconic legendary Pokémon from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are being given away at brick-and-mortar GameStop locations in the United States and at EB Games in Australia and New Zealand. Involved local stores in other countries such as Japan and France were also added in the campaign.

Early Troubles and Code Shortages

Nonetheless, the promotion got off to a rocky start—enthusiasts reported that their nearby shops had exhausted their code supplies in the days leading up to the event. Now, midway into the promotional period, GameStop has restocked codes, but it's likely your nearest outlet has depleted its stock again.

Because of high demand, the initial batch of free Shiny Koraidon and Shiny Miraidon code cards went very quickly.

On Saturday, October 4, GameStop announced a code restock via social media. Their announcement noted that they had collaborated with Pokémon's creators to make more codes available, but there's a catch. "We have received from Pokémon a restricted quantity of receipt codes, around 50 per location."

Reselling and Exploitation Problems

Stores initially received fifty codes, but they quickly ran through them. Despite the event restricting codes to one per person, some eBay listings surfaced with several codes available. That's remained true for the new round of codes. A prominent response on social media commented, "These codes right?" accompanied by images of eBay listings for the codes, with at least one having multiple available.

Mixed Experiences for Fans

Certain fans managed to obtain codes during the weekend from their local stores, while others weren't so lucky. "Hoping for a third opportunity. I contacted my local GameStop. They’re out of codes (again)," one individual commented, before other players stepped up and gave them extra codes for Shiny Koraidon and Shiny Miraidon.

Unanswered Questions

The reason these shiny legendary Pokémon weren't earned through a in-game Tera Raid or given away online via the Mystery Gift feature remains unknown. For now, you must visit your local store and hope they still have codes remaining if you desire a Shiny Koraidon or Shiny Miraidon.
