The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
