As he approaches his half-decade plus one year at the helm, Mikel Arteta has admitted that his future at Arsenal is directly connected to winning major honors.
A Look Back: The Arteta Era
The former Arsenal captain assumed control on the 20th of December in 2019 and promptly led the team to an cup win a short time later. Yet, that first major trophy is still his sole significant piece of silverware after taking over from Unai Emery.
“I can,” Arteta responded in response to a query about his future past 2027. “Yet it's about today. And numerous factors need to fall into place in the near future as well to earn the right.”
This weekend sees the landmark with a fixture against Everton, the identical team Arsenal met the day after his appointment was announced.
The Current Landscape
As trailing Manchester City taking on West Ham earlier in the day, Arsenal face being knocked off top spot in the Premier League before their own match begins. This comes despite Arteta managing a squad that has endured in excess of one hundred injury setbacks from the beginning of last season.
The manager is under a contract with 18 months to run on the extension he agreed to in 2024, but is acutely aware that he must deliver promptly.

He stated further, expressing gratitude for the strong backing from the board and owners, but pinpointing the squad's dedication as the key factor. “Ultimately, the most important ones are those players... Over this half-decade, I’ve seen just players with a degree of commitment, hunger for knowledge and give their all to the team.”
Squad Setbacks
The team faces the weekend fixture coping with a fresh setback. Defender Ben White has been sidelined with a muscle problem that is expected to keep him out for a few weeks.

Even with the availability issues and the intense pressure, Arteta is confident the club's “focus and dialogue” are vastly different from when he began his reign.
The manager referenced the record-breaking achievements as proof they are close. “You look at the performances, all the club records that were shattered... We still haven’t managed to do that [win trophies]. But that shows the level we are at.”
Arteta concluded, “This is a standard that the Premier League has never experienced in the past. And our ambition is to achieve greater objectives. And if we do that, I think we are on the right path to winning.”
