Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades After Initiating Derogatory Chants About Coach Wilder

Patrick Bamford is now a member of Sheffield United only seven months after instigating insulting songs aimed at their manager, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, a free agent after departing from Leeds, has put pen to paper on a deal joining the Championship club in difficulty until January. His lengthy spell with Leeds was ended amicably in August.

One of the player's final notable acts while at Leeds included starting abusive songs about Wilder during the club’s promotion party in April. Now, the former England international is set to play under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to lift his beloved club away from the drop zone.

Previous Conflict Between Bamford and the Manager

The pair had a past prior to Leeds moved up to the top flight the previous campaign and United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager described the forward as a "muppet" when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United secured direct promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.

Making Amends & Moving Forward

Everything seems has been put behind them with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost in attack while Bamford hoping to resurrect his playing days.

The song about Wilder went viral in April. A repentant Patrick and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day.

Chris Wilder stated back then: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I have no issue at all with it. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow professional! But I valued and admired him giving me a call.

“We spent a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel too and we had a longer discussion with him and he's a super guy, a top guy. Back in my playing days we used to give it and take it and that is part and parcel of the game across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I told him that to Pat.”

Latest Playing Challenges

The forward featured in 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the former Forest, Chelsea & Boro striker has faced difficulties with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
