Arsenal's manager feels assured that his team can keep managing with injury setbacks following disclosing that attacker Kai Havertz is not ready for the coming weeks.
Prolonged Recovery for German Star
The German forward has been absent since August after undergoing an operation on his knee. Originally slated to return at the start of this month, Arteta revealed the player hit a snag when advancing his training and failed to reach “the next phase.”
“Our experience helped us build a group that is much more reliable and has increased versatility,” commented Arteta.
Selection Dilemma for Midweek Fixture
This development presents a selection headache for Wednesday’s fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. A decision is required between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who scored as a makeshift striker on Sunday, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return after a fitness issue in the latter stages. When asked if more options was helping their championship push, his response was positive. “Absolutely, as this campaign has presented greater challenges in some areas, and now the situation with the defence,” he continued.
“History has shown us that we have to use players in various roles, and they have to be able to fulfil different roles if we want to compete at this level. And the instance of Mikel Merino.”
Arteta's Support for Frustrated Havertz
Addressing the setback noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave additional context. “His recovery was progressing. He was unable to progress to the required step and now it’s looking like we have solved that issue.”
The manager conveyed his personal desire to welcome him back. “The team is keen to have him. Honestly, he is a footballer who, personally, I value highly for his contributions to the team, but his character, his nature. I see him suffer while sidelined.”
