Ex- Physician Faces Assault Allegations Involving Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care
Prosecutors have stated that a former physician stands accused of performing sexual assaults involving 38 individuals who were patients.
The Serious Allegations
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with numerous acts of sexual assault – including some against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.
One deputy chief prosecutor said, “Legal teams have diligently worked to assist a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the evidence to determine that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”
Scope of the Investigation
The charges come after what police described as a “complex investigation” into reported assaults at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.
List of Offences
The charging documents outline the forty-five sexual offences include:
- Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
- Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
- Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
- Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
- 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.
