Widely circulated footage seemed to capture Jones making an obscene gesture toward opposing supporters, though he maintains he was actually giving a thumbs-up to Dallas supporters in attendance as his team clinched a 37-22 victory.
“It was regrettable. That was kind of an exchange with Cowboys supporters seated near me,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “There was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not Jets fans, our fans. The whole venue was filled with enthusiasm for the Dallas team.”
He further clarified that the signal was completely accidental, occurring amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I just showed the wrong finger,” he noted. “It was accidentally done. This is sincere. Should you call it unplanned, you can. But it got resolved rapidly.”

This incident isn’t the first time an league proprietor has been penalized for misconduct. Recent cases include:
- Panthers proprietor Tepper was penalized $300K for tossing a beverage at spectators in early 2024.
