Cardiff Prepared to Welcome First Game of European Championship 2028

Principality Stadium ready for major event

The national stadium was the venue for the prestigious final in 2017

The Welsh capital will host the first match of UEFA's tournament, while semi-finals and final are scheduled for London's Wembley Stadium

Nine locations across four co-hosts - multiple British isles nations - will present the major competition

Matches were earlier considered for the northern territory, but Belfast's Casement Park was removed due to budgetary challenges

UEFA's decision to host the first game in Cardiff was announced as the championship was officially launched on Wednesday

"This will be the first time that '{The Red Wall' - our loyal followers - will experience a significant championship on home soil," commented Football Association of Wales head official Noel Mooney

Unlike previous Euros, host nations must secure entry for the future competition, though they would be assured to play their group games on local stadiums if they secure immediate qualification

The co-hosting teams will each be in distinct preliminary sections, with two spots also designated for the best-performing of those nations who miss out through standard entry paths

Tournament Structure

Quarter-finals will be organized at the Welsh national venue, the Irish capital's arena, Glasgow's Hampden Park and London's iconic venue - which previously hosted key fixtures in 1996 and for the delayed 2020 edition

Manchester's venue, where the Three Lions would begin their campaign if they earn automatic entry, before moving to Wembley, is part of multiple other stadiums being used in the host nation

North London's venue, Birmingham's ground, Liverpool's new arena and St James' Park are the others that will be used across the 51 matches in total

Tourism Boost

The British authorities says it is allocating significant funding to organize the tournament but anticipates a return of £3.2bn due to job creation, local development and tourist spending

"Euro 2028 will be the largest competition ever co-organized by the participating nations and, as a lifelong football fan, I know how much major events like this count," stated the national leader

With an standard seating arrangement of just under sixty thousand, tournament organizers forecasts that increased spectators than ever before will attend matches at a European Championship finals

Country Views

Mark Bullingham said: "The magnitude of the tournament will have a substantial advantage on local areas nationwide"

The parallel leader at the national organization, the association head, continued: "The passionate followers are famous for their enthusiasm and we anticipate offering them, as well as the countless tourists who will travel to the nation for the tournament, with the sort of unforgettable event that they will always remember"

The chief of the Scottish governing body, the association official, remarked: "People discuss about the impact of the game and the impact it can make on a consistent basis across the country, far beyond the limits of the stadium"

The preliminary grouping will occur in Belfast on December 6th, 2026
