Barca manager Hansi Flick admits he does not want his young family members witnessing the actions that resulted in his dismissal during the fixture against Girona.

The 60-year-old received a caution for sarcastically clapping the fourth official when he indicated four minutes of stoppage time, following Barcelona's wasted opportunities with the game tied.

When substitute the defender scored a late winner for Barca, Flick participated in the home crowd in joyous scenes and was given a second yellow for displaying an obscene gesture.

"I dislike seeing myself in this state on TV, and I don't want my grandchildren from seeing their grandfather like that," Flick said. "Therefore I likely have to adjust my conduct."

Speaking at a press briefing before the team face Olympiacos in the Champions League, Flick linked the raised finger for which he was penalised to the strong emotions he has for the club, which he has managed since May 2024.

Flick was manager at the Bundesliga club when the team were the first to net eight times against Barcelona in more than 50 years in that year, and states to have been reserved on the sideline as his team advanced into a European Cup last four.

"I remember when I was coach of Bayern Munich, the video of the game against Barcelona showed that I had the same reaction to the first, next and eighth goals," said Flick. "People remarked I never smiled! Currently I'm showing greater passion, it's true, because this club has transformed me."

"Maybe I should restrain my impulses, but I adore Barcelona, Barcelona and its supporters, and that's why I always put in maximum effort."

Suspension for El Clasico

The manager's red card includes a sideline suspension which will restrict him to the seating area of the stadium as his team face the rivals in El Clasico on Sunday – though Barcelona are appealing against the ruling.

Barca president Joan Laporta claimed a "white hand" was behind official Jesus Gil Manzano's decisions against the opponent – referring to support for the Madrid club – though Flick himself refused to get drawn into allegations of officiating bias.

"I had no issue with the official," he said. "I did not protest at him but he saw it that way and that's something I have to acknowledge."
