Arteta Warns Fitness Woes Could Undermine Arsenal's Silverware Quest
Mikel Arteta has voiced fears that his squad's pursuit for titles this season is being jeopardized by a worrying circle of fitness setbacks and a grueling fixture list.

Star player Declan Rice missed the midweek clash to Belgium due to illness. Meanwhile, attacker Leandro Trossard and defender William Saliba are still on the sidelines.
There was, however, better news regarding Gabriel Jesus, with the Brazilian forward added to their European squad. He replaces the injured youngster Max Dowman, who suffered an ankle problem.
"Training, no because we lack time to train. But clearly the fact that you are without players, you are placing demands on other players more, there's a knock-on effect to that and it's a truly dangerous cycle."
Dowman's issue is the latest in a long series of injuries for the club. Since the beginning of last campaign, they have recorded 95 player absences, the second-highest total in the English top flight.
Long-Term Absentees
- Defenders Cristhian Mosquera and Gabriel Magalhães are unlikely to return until 2025.
- Midfielder Kai Havertz continues to recover from surgery and "requires more time," according to the manager.
Arteta rejected the idea that training intensity were to culprit, pointing to a shortage of opportunity for drills. He highlighted the strain on available players, some of whom have played over 150 matches in two years.
Recruitment Strategy
Despite a significant summer spend exceeding £250 million, Arteta stated the club is unlikely looking to dip into the January transfer market.
"At the moment we're just focusing on bringing the players back and hopefully it will be a question of a short time," he commented. "It's clear how crucial those coming weeks are going to be."
Next Challenge
The team suffered their initial loss in 18 games at the weekend, cutting their lead at the top of the league to two clear points.
Attention now turns to the European stage, where a sixth consecutive group-stage victory would virtually guarantee a knockout phase finish. Forward Gabriel Martinelli could create history by finding the net in a fifth straight successive European fixture.
"The team is disappointed with the outcome, but we have to keep going," he stated. "It's not like everything is going wrong because we lost one game. So we remain united."
