A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”
This ceremony, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, provided by a first responder, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Each year, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
